SMTP Server Requires Secure Connection Error

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

While configuring email settings with SwithMail it is possible to receive the following error message if using Gmail or a company mail server.

AuthError

This error occurs because the mail server that SwithMail is attempting to establish a connection with is suspicious of the connection.

SwithMail is not able to respond to the challenge that the mail server raises and the connection attempt fails.

To circumvent this issue, additional verification is required on the user's email account settings.

If a company mail server is being utilized, using the custom option on SwithMail GUI to configure email settings should be sufficient. Ensure the login credentials, server name, and port number are correct before testing the connection. This information can be provided by the company's IT department.

If Gmail is being utilized, 2-Step Verification needs to be enabled on the user's Gmail account. Additionally, an App Password generated by Gmail needs to be used as the password on SwithMail. The App Password will replace the user's usual login password on SwithMail.

To enable 2-Step Verification and app passwords, please read Google's Account Help pages.
