32-bit and 64-bit SpecView

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

There are both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of SpecView: SV3.exe and SV3_64.exe

Note that the 32-bit version can only access 4GB RAM regardless of how much is installed. Whereas the 64-bit version can access all available RAM if needed. This is a Windows operating system limitation.

If your computer is running a 32-bit version of Windows then use the 32-bit version of SpecView.

Or, if your computer is running a 64-bit version of Windows then use the 64-bit version of SpecView.

However, the exception to this is if you are on a 64-bit system but intending to use 32-bit ActiveX controls or a 32-bit OPC Server with SpecView, then use the 32-bit version of SpecView.

The 64-bit version is slightly faster than the 32-bit and the additional memory available in the 64-bit version also allows for more trend charts to be used in the project.

SpecView Projects can be used in either version, with the exception of projects containing ActiveX controls, as mentioned above.

64-bit DMP files are preferable for debugging purposes when reporting bugs.

Note: OPC and ActiveX-Control restrictions should be noted i.e. it is not allowed to use projects built in 32-bit and 64-bit and vice-versa.
