Data Logging - Variables

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

Variables are any items in the Variables List. Types include numbers, integers, boolean (on/off), date, time and text. This topic tells you how to see what variables are being logged and how to add or remove a variable to/from logging.

NOTE: Only variables that have been selected for logging will be available for Log Reports and Historical Replay.

Which variables will be logged can be selected using the Variables List tb_vars

Double-clicking in the 'L' column will add/remove this parameter from logging.

Alternatively, select the parameter and use Properties to add/remove the Logging Attribute.

NOTE: The Properties box should be used when needing to select the same variable in multiple instruments. For example, if there are a large number of the same type of instrument and you want to add Working Setpoint to logging for each of them then you should check 'Automatically apply changes to other similar parameters' on the Properties box.

All the variables on a GDW can be added to logging with a single command using the 'Set All items on this GDW as Logged' menu command:

dl-set all items

This will set as logged only those instrument variables which have been specifically put onto the current GDW.

This feature is most useful when a GDW is frequently used with Historical Replay and it is desired that all the variables replay. This is typical of an Overview screen.

NOTE: However, use caution. For example, if used on a GDW that has several hundred items for a ramp/soak program, all those items can be added to logging with a single mouse click. But once selected, the only way to remove them from logging is by double-clicking in the boxes in the 'L' column, as described above.
