SpecView has 2 main modes of operation: Edit Mode and Runtime Mode.

 

Runtime mode is when instrument(s) are 'online' and values are being read, displayed and logged.

 

Edit mode is used to configure a SpecView project, i.e. creating screens, setting up the Strategy Controller, etc.

 

However, there is also a method of Editing a project while remaining 'online' to the instrument(s), so that values continue to be read and logged.

 

When going from Runtime Mode to Edit Mode there are 2 choices on the File menu: Edit Mode (remain online) and Edit Mode (go offline):

 

 

To enable/disable online features use the Online Features menu:

 

 

The reason for this is to prevent the live values from affecting what is being edited, a particular example of this is Position Dynamics. If Position Dynamics was being edited while it was 'online' then the position of objects on the screen could change unexpectedly.
