Making a phone call from SpecView

Sending a notification from SpecView when an event occurs is a common request which could be done via:

Telephone call

To make a telephone call from SpecView, there are 3 ways SpecView could do this:

All of these assume that the SpecView license has the 'Strategy Controller' option.

1.Running a program to make the call which would require the Strategy Controller to run an external command line application which in this case would be some sort of program that dials a telephone number. These sorts of programs are becoming more widely available, further research on available programs would be needed, and each call would come at an additional cost from the provider. Unfortunately 'Google Voice' only works in America at the moment.

2. Turning on a digital output:

In the simplest form - think of personal alarm systems for the elderly - these have a button on a necklace that the person presses if something is wrong. This signals an autodialler box on the wall to make the call to the telephone number(s) that have been previously setup in the autodialler.

Now imagine that you have acquired from somewhere a button pusher gadget that presses a button when a digital output is On. So obviously these could be put together, and SpecView could be setup to turn on the digital output.

A real example of this is this GSM Autodialler which could work together with a Promux relay output module - or any digital output from any existing instrumentation, e.g. a spare alarm output on a controller.

3. Sending a signal via the Modbus protocol to some sort of device which accepts Modbus commands and which can do the dialing, to find available solutions Google for: Modbus slave autodialler
