Objects can be locked onto the screen (GDW) to prevent them from being unintentionally moved using the cursor.
This is particularly helpful if a background graphic is being used when it is easy to inadvertently click on it and move it.
To lock an object right-click and choose Lock Object from the popup menu: |

Once an object is locked the handles will change to red and the 'No Entry' cursor will be displayed if an attempt is made to use the handles. |

However, the cursor keys can still be used to nudge selected object(s) one pixel at a time (or while holding the SHIFT key down jump one grid increment) as described here.
Also, using the Move To Front; Move To Back; Move Forward; Move Back menu items from the Object menu will also continue to function.
