GDW - Graphical Display Window

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

The window (or screen) used to display data from the connected instruments. Graphics drawings are used so that the data may be arranged in a logical and unambiguous format. SpecView may have as many GDW's as disk space and Windows limitations will permit.

Creating and Editing GDW's

In SpecView version 2.5 (builds 820 and above) GDW's have been renamed GD3's following the addition of the ability to add ActiveX controls to SpecView's screens.

Throughout this text the words: 'screen', 'GDW' and 'GD3' all have the same meaning. This is because the content of a 'screen' layout is saved to a file with a .GDW or .GD3 filename extension.

NOTE: Files with the .GDW or .GD3 filename extension cannot be used alone. Consequently they cannot be used by SpecView if they have been separated from the other files in the Project subfolder that they were created in.
