OPC stands for: Open Platform Communications - Data Access.
The most recent OPC Server standard is OPC UA (Unified Architecture).
SpecView works with most OPC servers - the reason we cannot say 'all' is because we haven't tested them all, but if they comply with the standard then they should work.
SpecView supports OPC Servers that provide an OPC Data Access standard 1 or 2 interface.
OPC UA has been made backwards compatible and therefore should work with older OPC Clients like SpecView. If in doubt then check with your SpecView representative.
SpecView's OPC Client can communicate with an OPC Server on this computer or running remotely on another computer.
In order for OPC to function the OPC Client option must be enabled on the dongle.
Since OPC is treated within SpecView as another ‘channel’; you can mix OPC ‘instruments’ with COM port and TCP/IP based ‘instruments’.
However, in this case the Multiport option is required on the dongle.
OPC is implemented in SpecView in both Edit Mode and Runtime Mode. In Edit Mode you can use SpecView’s OPC Browser to view all of the OPC Servers currently available.
This is achieved either by using the Test Comms for New Project button, then clicking the OPC button, for example:
or the New Manual Project button, then clicking the Template List tool on the toolbar
and clicking the OPC button at the bottom of that box.
