The latest version of SpecView can be downloaded from our website http://www.specview.com
It is always advisable to have good reliable backups of the computer before updating any software.
Firstly, it is necessary to have Administrator privileges on this computer before installing/updating SpecView.
Updating SpecView Version 2 or 2.5 to Version 3
Before updating it may be necessary to purchase a Version 3 upgrade. To check if this is necessary use the Registration Information menu command on the Help menu.
If Version 3 is listed then this dongle will work with Version 3. Also check that the 'Free Updates', now called Update Subscription hasn't lapsed.
Otherwise these errors may be displayed:
Install SpecView Version 3 into a separate folder - not into the same folder as Version 2/2.5 (which was by default in: C:\SV32\). We recommend installing into the new default folder, which is: C:\SV3\.
Existing SpecView Configurations (now called Projects) will continue to work in SpecView Version 3.
There is a Migration tool that will help with this process.
Once this is complete run SpecView Version 3 and it will be listed in the Projects Found box.
Trend Charts V2 (or V2.5) to V3
When a Version 2 (or Version 2.5) trend chart is used with Version 3 it will not be automatically updated to incorporate the new features of Version 3 Trend Charts.
This needs to be done manually for each Trend Chart in the Project.

Backward Compatibility
A Project cannot however be copied from SpecView Version 3 back into SpecView Version 2.5 as there will have been significant changes to the format of the files and also with regard to Trend Charts.

Updating SpecView Version 3 to a newer build of Version 3
Before updating it may be necessary to purchase an Update Subscription upgrade for the license. Check the Updates until date on the dongle. This can be seen from the About SpecView menu command on the Help menu.
To purchase an Update Subscription for the dongle contact a SpecView supplier/distributor or SpecView directly.
If an update subscription has been purchased, download the new SpecView Setup program to update existing installations. Install it in the same directory to overwrite and update the older SpecView files - this will not affect any projects or screens already defined. As always, it is highly recommended to make an Archive of the current project and data before installing the new version.
To update SpecView to a more recent version run SpecView's Setup program to start the InstallShield Wizard:
This will update the same components of SpecView as were installed initially.
In order to add components (such as additional drivers) either run the original setup program and choose Modify from the Modify/Repair/Remove box.
Or use the Windows Control Panel - Programs and Features, and right-click on 'SpecView' in the list and choose Change.
